IT Analyst for Cisco Systems

What factors led you to pursue your current career?

I'm driven to problem solve through innovation and analysis. I really enjoy understanding the logical side of things and recognizing avenues for improvement.

What project are you currently working on?

I'm currently working with the Unified Communications and Video Services team. In short, we drive video in Cisco through various products such as Jabber, WebEx, and Telepresence. My role is to understand our technologies' roadmaps and to best implement communications and objectives to Cisco employees all over.

Did you participate in internships?

I did hold a couple of internships. I worked at Purdue for a couple of summers, doing database work. Later, I worked for Dow Corning in Michigan, creating custom internal websites for tracking security certificates. Dow Corning was such a learning experience in real-world workplace life and it integrated my class work fantastically.

Did you participate in Study Abroad?

No, I wish I had. If you can make it happen, I'd encourage you to try it.

What advice would you give to current or prospective CIT students?

Three things. First, understand what CIT is offering and what direction it's pointing you in. Understand coding, databases, project management, and networking. Find what you like to work with. Second, get some experience. I was so impressed that freshmen were at the career fair three weeks into their college careers. The sooner you start networking, making contacts, and getting your foot in the door, the more real life experience you'll get, which is invaluable when you're looking at your long-term career. Lastly, I'll give you the same advice I was given upon entering college. 1.) Work hard. 2.) Play hard. 3.) Don't mess up the order. :)
