As part of a continuing collaboration between Purdue University and Ivy Tech Community College, Purdue’s College of Technology has shared its engineering technology lab equipment with Ivy Tech’s Anderson campus. Seventeen pieces of equipment were moved to the Ivy Tech’s Ebbertt campus last week, and they will be accessible to both Ivy Tech and Purdue students. The mechanical engineering technology lab equipment is utilized in Purdue’s engineering technology, industrial technology and organizational leadership and supervision bachelor’s degree programs. “This equipment had been underutilized for about a year when we first started planning to relocate it to the Ivy Tech lab on 38th Street,” said Barbara Alder, director of Purdue University College of Technology at Anderson. “Now students from both institutions gain greater benefit without spending additional taxpayer dollars to equip the newly renovated Ivy Tech lab space. It’s clearly a win-win for everyone involved and the continuation of a strong partnership between Purdue’s College of Technology and Ivy Tech in Anderson.” The institutions have partnered to offer expanded transfer of credit opportunities for students who want to pursue Purdue bachelor’s degrees after earning Ivy Tech associate degrees in similar programs. “We are very excited about this expanded partnership between Ivy Tech and Purdue’s College of Technology,” said James Willey, vice chancellor of the Anderson campus. “While we have enjoyed ongoing articulation agreements with our colleagues at Purdue, this partnership promises greater educational opportunities for our students and community.” Among the equipment moved to Ivy Tech is a fatigue tester with tooling and testing material, heat treatment furnace, polariscope, Rockwell hardness tester, strain indicator, torsion tester with tolling and testing material and a Universal Testing Machine (UTM) with several auxiliary pieces. To complement the Purdue lab pieces and enhance the engineering technology program overall, Ivy Tech has purchased additional equipment: Instron Materials Testing System, a MetaServ precision sectioning, a grinder polisher for material testing specimens and inverted laboratory metalograph.
