How to build diverse departments

The College of Technology will host a presentation about building diversity within an organization from an administrator who has helped Clemson University achieve a diversity milestone.

Juan Gilbert, Ph.D., IDEaS Professor and Chair of the Division of Human-Centered Computing at Clemson University, will discuss how Clemson’s School of Computing became the first research university in the nation to have a majority female and majority African-American student body in a computing Ph.D. program. The school also has the first computing department at a research university to have six African-American tenure-track faculty members.

The presentation, titled “Achieving Historical Diversity: Steps toward building a high quality, diverse department,” will be Monday, Oct. 29, in Knoy Hall, B031 at 3:00 p.m.
