How to design net zero homes. Enroll in the short course this summer!

Are you interested in learning how to design net zero homes? Attend the day class this summer during the High Performance Building Conference at Purdue University. Come and learn the steps needed to reach net zero from three advisers who were part of Purdue's successful second place finish in the U.S. Department of Energy's Solar Decathlon 2011. Visit the conference web site for up-to-date information about the course, organized by Bill Hutzel, P.E., Mark Shaurette, Ph.D, and Brian Loss,  J.D. Course Description This hand-on course will present a strategy for planning affordable net zero energy homes. Attendees will learn about software tools in the public domain that can be used for optimizing the building envelope, selecting appliances and other systems inside the home, and evaluating renewable energy options to reach net zero. The course will also highlight new developments, such as web-based energy monitoring systems, that allow homeowners to easily track and evaluate all the technology inside their home. One important resource for this course is the INhome, Purdue University's second place entry into the 2011 Solar Decathlon that will be on display during the conference. Participants will need to bring a laptop with wireless internet capability, or one can be provided for an additional fee.
