New Albany location brings STEM focus to YMCA

The Purdue College of Technology in New Albany and the YMCA of Southern Indiana have begun a partnership to incorporate STEM subjects into summer programs and other youth programs.

Andrew Takami, director of the Purdue location off Charlestown Road, said while he’s trying to give the college more exposure in the community, he’s also trying to find ways to meet the needs of other organizations in the area.

“In my view, the real value for a university in a community isn’t just for the education they can give to students, but what they can do . . . to impact everyone,” Takami said. “Our focus with the YMCA is to help infuse STEM education into their curriculum to encourage more young people to enter those STEM-related fields long-term.”
