Swain named director of Richmond location

Michael Swain has been appointed director of Purdue University’s College of Technology at Richmond.

He will oversee operations for the location, which is headquartered in Tom Raper Hall on the Indiana University East campus.

“I am committed to advancing our current partnerships with Ivy Tech, Indiana University East, Earlham, Sinclair Community College and local industry to bring outstanding educational opportunities to the citizens of our region,” Swain said. “With the new leadership at all the Richmond higher education institutions and the new leadership at Purdue University and its College of Technology, it’s an exciting time for higher education and all education providers in the region.”

Swain joined the Purdue University College of Technology at Richmond in 1996, overseeing admissions and student services.  He has been instrumental in Purdue’s local Day In College and Paint Purdue Pink programs and has been a co-chair of the Eastern Indiana College Fair. He has served on a variety of  Richmond and Wayne County community committees.

Prior to his Purdue appointment, he spent two years at Ball State University and nine years with Indiana state government, primarily with the Department of Correction and the Indiana Parole Board.

Swain earned his master’s degree in communications from Ball State University and his bachelor’s degree in history from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.
