As the principal research scientist for the cybersecurity firm, CrowdStrike, Cory-Khoi Quang Nguyen designs, builds and implements systems that apply intelligent algorithms to detect nation-state and e-crime, malware and ransomware activity in computer networks.
“My work reduces analysis fatigue and optimizes hunting experiences for our cyber threat hunters,” says Nguyen. “The faster the intrusion attempts are detected, the sooner they can be contained and stopped.”
Nguyen acknowledges the Polytechnic’s pragmatic emphasis on hands-on learning. He has words of appreciation for the advisors who helped him along the way.
“Eric Dietz was instrumental in the success of my dissertation. He was always there when I needed him, providing advice, messaging me back at 2 a.m., meeting with me about my research and connecting me to the right people. We are great friends and still keep in touch."

Nguyen has received multiple awards including the 2012 SMART Fellowship from the Science Mathematics & Research for Transformation, the 2012 NDSEG Fellowship from the National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate and the 2013 Digital Multimedia Science Outstanding Case Study from the American Academy of Forensic Science.
Nguyen lives in Lafayette and continues to be involved with Purdue. As a guest lecturer, he develops courses and is involved in research projects. He also dances competitively as a member of the Purdue Latin and Ballroom Dance Team.
