CIT plans inaugural career fair

CIT Career Fair

The Department of Computer and Information Technology (CIT) will host its inaugural CIT Career Fair on September 13, 2018.

“CIT has phenomenal industry partners who sponsor projects and provide students with real-world experience,” said Dawn Laux, clinical associate professor and associate head of the department. “At the same time, they need more people to help grow their businesses. The CIT Career Fair will help us return the favor by connecting them with students preparing for careers in their specific fields.”

Additional career fairs are offered throughout the year, including the multidisciplinary career fair held at the college level in the Purdue Polytechnic Institute, one of the 10 academic colleges at Purdue University. However, Laux said that other Polytechnic departments have found that discipline-specific events attract large numbers of employers and students alike.

“Each company has a core focus, so it’s helpful to have a career fair with a similar emphasis,” said Laux. “The CIT Career Fair will be especially for companies who need employees specializing in information technology, network engineering technology, systems analysis and design, and cybersecurity.”

Because CIT has earned rankings which place its programs among the best in the nation, including No. 1 cybersecurity and No. 4 information technology programs, Laux said that employers will be able to meet students who are uniquely qualified for available positions.

“Internships are embedded in all CIT programs, giving our students an even stronger foundation for future employment,” Laux noted.

Registration for employers who want to attend the CIT Career Fair is underway. Companies can interview students during the fair at their company booth or, at no additional cost, they may request one of the private rooms which will be reserved for interviews.

In addition to meeting students during the fair, each company will also have the option to host an information session that will be advertised to all CIT students, providing an exclusive networking opportunity.

The CIT Career Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on September 13 in Purdue’s France A. Córdova Recreational Sports Center. Students from all computing-related majors at Purdue will be invited to attend.
